The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the American Corner of Abu Dhabi City invited Dr. Kalle Hashmi of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to give a talk about renewable energy issues on February 19, 2014. The title of the talk was “Sustainable Energy – A new Industrial Revolution”. The speaker pointed out how a third industrial revolution - driven by both certain concerns and specific opportunities - is gathering pace. Over the next few decades, it will alter everything; how we live, how we move around, and how we think about economic development and prosperity. The presentation highlighted new energy technology research activities and innovations that would open up exciting industrial and economic possibilities that recognize the climate and natural resource challenges.
Dr. Kalle Hashmi is Head of Capacity Building at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). He has represented Sweden at the European Commission, OECD, and Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), International Energy Agency (IEA), and United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). He is also an Associate Professor at the Royal Technical University, Sweden.
The event took place on February 19, 2014 at ACAD and it was attended by the Vice Chancellor, the Provost, the Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, American Corner (ACAD) Committee members, Faculty members and students.
