ALHOSN University Civil Engineering student won 1st Prize at the 4th UAE Undergraduate Student Research Competition (9th May 2016). The 4th UAE undergraduate student research competition took place at Abu Dhabi University on the 9th of May 2016, where a large number of UAE-based Universities participated with numerous student projects. The Department of Civil Engineering of ALHOSN University was represented in this competition by Hussein Ali Bark, a senior Civil Engineering student that is expected to graduate this Spring semester. Hussein’s project titled “Modeling, Analysis and Design of Reinforced Concrete Retrofitted Structures,” was supervised by Dr. George Markou, Head of Accreditation at the ALHOSN University and faculty member in the Civil Engineering Department. After presenting his work in front of the judging committee, Hussein received questions related to his work, which he successfully answered and received very positive comments from the examining committee members. After all teams finished their presentations, the committee awarded Hussein’s project the first prize (5,000AED and a recognition certificate). His work will also be published as a research paper at the European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering 2016 that will take place this summer in Greece.
