ALHOSN community came together on Sunday, September 29th to celebrate the International Day of Peace hosted by the American Corner of Abu Dhabi City (ACAD). Special activities took place including children drawings, a photo contest, art sculpturing and the presentation of a Peace Pole.
The day’s event commenced with the arrival of our little guests from Al-Manhal elementary school who participated in the Corner’s festivities by making drawings which captured around the theme of peace (there were lots of doves!). Then, the children lined up for face painting and enjoyed healthy snacks. The program featured ALHOSN students creating a giant Peace Dove sculpture. At the conclusion of the festivities, a special Peace Pole was presented to Vice Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Munther Momany. The Peace Pole bore the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in four different languages.
The American Corner was officially inaugurated at ALHOSN University in January 2011 to promote mutual understanding and an exchange of ideas between the United States and the United Arab Emirates by providing access to current and reliable information about the US by way of books and DVD collections, internet databases, and local programs open to the general public. The American Corner of Abu Dhabi City is one of 490 American Corners world-wide, one of three in the United Arab Emirates, and the first American Corner in the city of Abu Dhabi.
