In order to bridge the gap between academia and industries and introduce students to real-world applications of industrial engineering, the department of industrial engineering at ALHOSN University has recently organized two field trips to local leading industries, namely SIEMENS Transformers LLC and Abu Dhabi Ship Building, both located in Abu Dhabi’s Mussafah area.
During the visit to SIEMENS, faculty and students met with Eng. Khurram Saleem, Chief Operating Officer, Mr.Steve Jones, production manager, and Eng. Sandeep S.Chaudhair, deputy line manager. After a brief introduction about SIEMENS’ mission, vision, and values, the group toured the facility to learn more about SIEMENS production system. Students experienced the dynamic interaction between several production departments such as quality, inventory, sales, and assembly to produce a finished product.
The second field trip was to Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB). Eng. Mohammaed Jumaa Al Saadi, Training and Development Manager welcomed the IE group and gave an informative presentation about ADSB’s history, mission, vision, core values, and structure. The group then toured ADSB departments to learn more about the industrial and manufacturing processes involved in building and repairing ships. Such a visit is quite valuable to IE students since ship building industry usually incorporates almost every discipline of Industrial Engineering.
Both visits are just a continued effort to introduce Industrial Engineering to various local industries and businesses and also to build a collaborating relationship with industry and businesses to enrich our students' experience and provide industry and businesses a glimpse of what academia have to offer.
