Student and staff volunteers from ALHOSN’s Sports Club lent a hand to the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon. This is the second triathlon in the city which features swimming, biking and running. Team ALHOSN was entrusted with Aid Station 10 located along the Corniche wave-breaker (al-kaser).
According to the organizers, ALHOSN volunteers did “an amazing job at this aid station.” The morning team had to work incredibly hard, as the number of runners coming through the aid station was corybantic. The afternoon team had a more tranquil time, though the mercury was on the rise. By that time the runners coming through needed heaps of encouragement and “the girls were absolutely fantastic!”
In this year’s Abu Dhabi International Triathlon, 230 volunteers were on hand to help participants. 20,600 items of sports drinks were consumed during the race and 70 medical staff were standing by to deal with injuries and other emergencies.
Mrs. Haifa Kattan, Assistant Instructor, Software Engineering Department, ALHOSN University, was featured in the National Newspaper as one of the Arab participants. She was able to finish the race in about 4 hours, her first triathlon ever. Congratulations Mrs. Haifa on a job well-done!
ALHOSN Sports Club is planning on participating in next year’s triathlon event. Those interested in joining ALHOSN team are kindly requested to contact Mrs. Haifa Kattan at firstname.lastname@example.org
