This year’s ITU Triathlon Abu Dhabi 2016 marked the six straight participation of Team ALHOSN in such international event, which took place on Saturday 5 March 2016. Three teams, two solo triathletes, and a number of enthusiastic volunteers including students and staff took part in this annual test of physical strength and extreme endurance.
Preparation in the triathlon typically involves training and attending orientation sessions. Ms. Haifaa Kattan, advisor to the Sports Club, led the volunteers and also managed the entire Team ALHOSN participation from A-Z.
The teams were composed of Team ALPHA – Ahmad Djelassi (swim/run) and Ashraf Mokhtar (bike); Team MECHANICAL— Ahmad Ali (swim) and Yahya Ahmad (bike/run); and Team ATHLETE— Dr. Adnan Husnéin (swim), Lara Ismael (bike) and Rana Jalbout (run). Meanwhile, the solo acts were performed by Karim Chaarani and Ms. Terri-Sue Cosgrove (HR department).
All teams and solos participated in the Sprint race which involved swimming 500 m, biking 20 km, and running 5 km. Team Alpha crossed the finish line in a gross time of 1:53:20, Team MECHANICAL in 1:59:56, and finally Team ATHLETE in 2:18:37.
There was no lack of sweat, blood or tears on the part of volunteers who tried to keep up with the pace of triathletes, managing the run aid station along the Corniche racecourse. ALHOSN volunteers performed gracefully and exquisitely handing out water, electrolytes, energy gels, and soaked sponges to the runners. Special thanks go to Ms. Haifaa Kattan, Mohammad Ismael, Emad Yassir, Mariam Walid Mansoura, Ayman Mustapha, Mohammad Zahraa, Ahmad Zaydan, and Mohammad Al Abbadi. You guys rock!
ALHOSN triathletes and volunteers gathered later at the aid station for group photos to conclude a day filled with camaraderie and positive energy. Hope to see more of you next year!
