On April 24, 2016, Software Engineering students: Mr. Osama Kousi, Mr. Mohamad Irani, and Mr. Ziad Atieg, took part of the Mobile Application Contest (MAC) 2016, a national contest organized annually by Khalifa University. The team was supervised by Dr. Samia Loucif, Mr. Murad Al-Rajab, and Miss Dena Ahmed. Fifteen projects entered in the competition from several universities: Khalifa University, American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates University, and Abu Dhabi University.
Our students developed an augmented reality-based mobile application called Smart Application for Every Car (SAEC) that aims at reducing the rates of on-roads deaths and car accidents in UAE. The application assists vehicle drivers in monitoring their car speed and deviation by producing audible and visual warning in case of speed limit excess and/or car deviation from its straight path. The application detects road signs such as speed hump, stop, etc. and displays them to the driver with a produced sound. It also warns the driver in case of safety distance violation to avoid car collision. Other features include saving the car location when parking and finding its location with the possibility to pay for Mawaqif parking through the application.
Our team won the third prize while the second and first prizes went to Khalifa University and Abu Dhabi University, respectively.
Congratulations to ALHOSN University and to the Software Engineering Department wishing them more success and achievements in the future.
