ALHOSN University, represented by Vice Chancellor and CEO Prof. Abdul Rahim Sabouni, recently signed a Paper-Less Day Charter initiated by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD). The charter is a symbol of UAE’s commitment towards protecting the environment and will be presented to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to help launch the Paper-Less Day campaign globally next year.
The signing of the charter follows ALHOSN University’s recent participation in the ‘Paper-Less Day 2010’ campaign organized by EAD as part of week-long international activities marking the UN World Environment Day on June 5, 2010.
ALHOSN joined more than 100,000 individuals and organizations in avoiding all non-essential printing and copying of paper during the day. The university urged staff and faculty to print only essential documents and use electronic means whenever possible, print on both sides of a paper to prevent wastage, and mail a record of their paper use to ALHOSN’s Student Records Officer at the end of the day to analyze paper consumption patterns. Last year, the EAD initiative helped prevent the emission of 157 kilograms of CO2 and saved the equivalent of two trees.
