Another year, another Triathlon Campaign and a Fantastic Police K9 Show on Campus for the First Time!

The Sports Club at ALHOSN University hosted on Monday February 24, 2014 the annual Abu Dhabi International Triathlon (ADIT) Campaign followed by a special Police K9 Show. The ADIT campaign encouraged ALHOSN community to participate in the upcoming International Triathlon on March 15.
Dr. Adnan Husnéin welcomed everyone on behalf of the Sports Club and introduced ADIT’s rep Mr. Steve Watson who thanked the Sports Club for its commitment to support ADIT for the fourth consecutive year. He explained that participants may choose to compete in a relay race as a team or serve as volunteers, handing out water and sponges while cheering triathletes. A map was shown of the race course which commences at the Corniche and stretches as far as Yas Marina Circuit for the long distance. There will also be a junior race on Friday, March 14, which will include an aquathon (swimming and running) and a full triathlon (swimming, biking, and running). Steve concluded his presentation with a short video clip on why the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon is fast becoming the most talked about triathlon in the world.
The audience was treated later on to a special show featuring the Abu Dhabi Police Dogs (K9) unit for the first time on campus. The show which was sponsored by the Security Inspection Department attracted about 150 spectators from ALHOSN and the community at large including many children who participated in the excitement.
The show started with the dogs and their handlers in a show of total obedience, bonding and control. The dogs were later ordered to jump hurdles and through hoops. There were also several dramatic demonstrations of false run, attack, vehicle attack, and search and rescue missions. The children also had a chance to compete with the dogs in fun games such as tug-of-war and “who pops their balloons first”!
The Abu Dhabi Police dogs are of the highest quality, individually selected and specifically trained to accommodate the widely varying requirements of Law Enforcement. These would include detecting explosives, narcotics and drugs, searching for weapons, tracking and rescuing survivors during accidents or natural disasters, detecting criminals involved in thefts, homicides or prison runaways.
Our sincere thanks to the Abu Dhabi Police Security Inspection Department’s Lt. Hamad Al Azizi for accepting our invitation, and to his colleague Mr. Karim and his team for conducting an excellent show. Also, special thanks to the Sports Club organizing team, Mrs. Haifaa Kattan, Ms. Huda Kindi, and Mr. Mohamed Al Blooshi, who played a key role in initiating contact and coordinating with the Abu Dhabi Police.
