The Prime Minister of Ireland HE Enda Kenny visited Abu Dhabi on Wednesday 8 January 2014 where he led one of the largest ever trade missions from Ireland to the Region. HE Kenny was accompanied by Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, HE Richard Bruton.
In a speech delivered during the Abu Dhabi-Ireland Business Forum, which was organized by the Irish Business Council Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and with the support of the Irish Embassy, Prime Minister Kenny emphasised Ireland’s commitment to establishing further economic and investment partnerships and relationships between UAE and Ireland.
During his visit to Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister Kenny met with the Vice Chancellor and Provost of ALHOSN University and expressed his full support for plans to create an Irish Corner at the University. He told those present that he looked forward to returning to Abu Dhabi in the near future and having an opportunity to visit the Irish Corner at ALHOSN.
The Irish Corner will be a resource centre for Irish history, culture, education and business practices. It will be used by the students to learn more about Ireland and help promote better understanding. It will establish ties with professional and civic bodies in Ireland and create partnerships with them on various academic, economic and social projects.
In essence, the Irish Corner will be a friendly, accessible space, which provides current and reliable information about Ireland through bilingual book and magazine collections, films and documentaries, poster exhibitions and guides for research on Ireland and will host conversation and study groups. The Corner will have a programming agenda and organise presentations, workshops and dialogue with Irish experts in all areas including educational opportunities in Ireland, foreign relations, literature, English, architecture, engineering, journalism and other topics of mutual interest and benefit.
Further information on the Irish Corner to follow.
