On Thursday, Nov 8th 2012, the Software Engineering-Industry Advisory Board met to discuss ideas on how to maintain high quality teaching and prepare students for successful careers. In addition to Dr Samia Loucif, Dr Adel Khelifi, Dr Maher Abourous, Mr Murad Al-Rajab, and Ms Haifa Kattan, teaching members at the Software Engineering Department; Prof Raymond Tenant, the Provost, and Prof Mohamed Sobaih, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences attended the meeting. The Advisory Board members represent six companies, namely: Abu Dhabi municipality, Technip, Cloud Technologies, Smart Solutions, GISTEC, and Emirage Systems. Mr Mohamed Sobhi, Ms Nadine Akila, and Ms Sarah Fadel, on behalf of the ALHOSN University Alumni Association, were also present.
Dr Samia Loucif, Chair of the Software Engineering Department, started the meeting by welcoming the attendees, followed by an introduction from each member. A brief presentation was given by Dr Adel on the ABET process that the Software Engineering Department recently went through to obtain accreditation. Then, Dr Samia presented to the attendees a list of key points for discussion. The attendees started by conducting a review of the curriculum focusing on the content of courses currently on offer. Following that, different subjects were suggested by the Advisory Board to make the program more appealing to prospective applicants. Finally, attendees brainstormed possible workshops, internships, field trips, and scholarships to better serve current and future students. The meeting ended at 14:00, after which participants were treated to a sumptuous buffet lunch. The event was organized by Dr Samia Loucif and Mr. Murad Al-Rajab.
