Students and staff members of ALHOSN’s Sports Club joined over 2,400 athletes, professional and amateur, who took part in the 2014 Abu Dhabi International Triathlon on Saturday, March 15th. Although the race started out beautifully with mild temperature at dawn, Team ALHOSN fought their way through the rest of the day as the mercury rose to a menacing degree.
This marks Team ALHOSN’s 4th straight participation in this grand city event dubbed the “world’s most glamorous triathlon”. Team ALHOSN did not comprise of athletes only, student volunteers formed an important contingent that helped with registration, bib number assignment, and managing aid stations along the race course handing out water, electrolytes, energy gels and soaked sponges. This was a crucial operation that would normally make or break an event. Our Team shone throughout!
On the race course Team ALHOSN participated in two events covering the sprint distance. In the team relay event, Dr. Adnan Husnéin, Yahya Fayez, and Abdallah Al-Kabra took turns swimming, biking and running consecutively. They crossed the finish line in a gross time of 2:50:55 (net time 2:38:45). Meanwhile, Al-Baraa Al-Mousa went solo and finished in an impressive 3:38:17 — his first triathlon ever!
By the end of the day, students were exhausted but very excited and vowed to TRI it again—and do even better next time. One of the parents was present to cheer on her son Yahya. She thanked ALHOSN University and Mrs. Haifa Kattan, advisor to the Sports Club, for encouraging students to take part in such an invigorating experience and sharing it with so many people from all over the world.
