The American Corner of Abu Dhabi City hosted on October 20, 2013 an informative presentation on Osteoporosis. The lecture was conducted by Burjeel Hospital’s and American Board Certified Dr. Mohamed Abuyoussef who explained to an audience of more than 35 students and staff what they need to know about Osteoporosis. He began by making the distinction between osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. The former being a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, while the latter, osteoarthritis, is a type of joint disease. Dr. Abuyoussef recommended the audience to get their daily dose of vitamin D and to be outdoors for few hours a day. The lecture concluded with a lively Q & A session in which audience at the Doctor’s order performed a simple workout routine.
Throughout his career, Dr. Abuyoussef has received several awards and distinctions . He has also held faculty positions at the University of Hawaii. In 2013, he became the Clinical Assistant Professor of the Internal Medicine Department. He later assumed the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health In 2014. Dr. Abuyoussef moved to the United Arab Emirates where he initially practiced at a private hospital in Al Ain as a Consultant Physician in Rheumatology, then moved on to become the Program Director of Internal Medicine Residency.
