“In the past two years, the American Corner has been successful in organizing various noteworthy events such as the Breast Cancer Week of 2011 and Earth Day of 2012, representing the USA in Small World 2012, and initiated Abu Dhabi’s first Volunteer Fair. This event is yet another milestone achieved in the growth of the American Corner,” the Vice Chancellor stated.

The U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Victor Hurtado, described the need to focus attention on health issues, particularly cancer, to help raise awareness. He lauded the Sports Club and American Corner of Abu Dhabi City for their efforts to establish ties with the surrounding community.

Ms. Lamya Garb from the First Gulf Bank highlighted their plan to help protect women from an impending financial risk resulting from expensive cancer treatment. First Gulf Bank’s affordable "Well Women Plan" involves a small monthly payment to provide coverage for women should they suffer from common female-specific cancers.

The official winner of the Best Arabic Sweets Contest from the previous day’s Charity Bazaar was announced. The winner, ALHOSN student Noha Hatem received two free tickets to the banquet and was awarded a crystal plaque.

All proceeds from bazaar table sales, banquet tickets, and community donations will be gifted to Friends of Cancer Patients during the  American Corner’s “People of the World” event scheduled for November 20th on the ALHOSN campus.
