The American Corner at ALHOSN University hosted a fantastic presentation on December 9th,2013 by Ashraf Ghori; Dubai-based comic book artist, filmmaker and entrepreneur. Mr. Ghori is an award winning artist and director credited for creating the first UAE CGI SciFi film titled “Xero Error.” His artwork has appeared in various international publications including Dark Horse Comics. He is the CEO of the digital creative agency Xpanse CGI whose clients include H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, several government agencies and top brands. More than 22 students in the audience were transported to a world of fiction and fantasy.
Mr. Ghori introduced the audience to what he described as “initiatives” which illustrated his artistic and professional development at various stages of his career. In his view, these initiatives enabled him to take advantages of opportunities that came along, expand the network of professional contacts, and eventually led him to founding his company, “Xpanse CGI.” He also demonstrated the process of drawing a comic hero in digital painting .
In 1993, San Jacinto College in Pasadena Texas organized an exclusive Comic Art Exhibit for Ghori's work. Ghori was a founding member of Tempest Comics in Houston, Texas in 1994. He also produced a 4-issue mini-series “Tempest Comics Presents,” and was a featured comic artist at the 1994 Dallas Comic-Con.
The students also enjoyed watching a video clip of “Xero Error,” his feature animated sci-fi film. Xero Error premiered at the 3rd
Gulf Film Festival, and played at the 10th edition of Sci-Fi-London. It also won recognition at the 63rd
Cannes Film Festival. Ghori also self-publishes his FOBcity webcomics under Xpanse CGI.
