ALHOSN University hosted the 4th
Annual TESOL Arabia ESP Conference on Saturday, 26th
The title of the conference was “ESP in a Digitalized World
The topics presented and discussed focused on technical language issues such as “Transitivity in Scientific Writing”. This presentation led to a great deal of discussion of the nature of scientific texts. The conference also covered the area of “Differential Instructions”, “The use of story-telling”, “Research Skills for Engineering Students”, “ESP Teacher Training”, “Challenges of Englishing a Digitalized Emirati Corpus”, “English as a Medium Instruction in the classroom”, “Creating Online Test”, “Omani Engineering students”, “Be the Change”, “Teachers’ Cultural Competence” and “Integration of teaching, learning and assessment”. Emirati students from the HCT gave a presentation on “Community Service”. Additionally, there were other significant presentations on the use on internet for research and teaching purposes.
The event was attended by practicing teachers, trainers and education experts from Higher Colleges of Technology, Petroleum Institute, Khalifa University, University of Sharjah, UAE University, Caledonian College of Engineering, Rustaq College of Applied Sciences in Oman, STS AUH, and EPS American section.
The conference gave the participants an opportunity to take part in a vibrant and a fruitful discussion both, during and after the presentations.
Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive.
This was a great opportunity to publicize ALHOSN University and the programs that are offered.
Dr. Hassan Mustapha, Professor and Chair of the English Department, assisted by Maeve O’Toole and Eman Balfagieh were the organisers from ALHOSN University. They were ably supported by Hamid El Hamid from the IT department with Ahmed Al Darabseh and Ahmad Arabieh from the Marketing department.
Fathi Bin Mohamed and Sa’ad Rabia constituted the TESOL Arabia organizing secret formula. Both teams, working together, contributed to the great success of the event.
