The American Corner at Abu Dhabi City launched its inaugural new series “Coffee with a Diplomat” on December 10, 2013, by hosting Dr. Bahram M. Rajaee who served as the Cultural Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi. The conversation was attended by around 15 members of ALHOSN community, and moderated by ACAD Director, Dr. Adnan Husnéin.
Following a brief introduction, Dr. Rajaee spoke about the reasons that led him to choose a career path in Foreign Service. He also elaborated on what it takes to become a Foreign Service Officer and the special skills needed to becoming successful at that. He also commented on the growing bilateral UAE-US relations, and explored areas of collaboration through cultural and educational exchanges. During this unique exchange, while sipping traditional Arabic coffee and savoring Emirati dates, he responded to several inquiries made by students into the educational exchange programs currently in place.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Dr. Rajaee served as a Director at the University of Delaware’s Institute for Global Studies with a joint appointment in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. He was also a staff political scientist at the American Political Science Association in Washington, DC. Dr. Rajaee specializes in academic research at the intersection of the international relations of Southwest Asia and U.S. foreign policy. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Delaware and speaks Persian, Arabic, and German.
